WORDLISTS PROJECT 1. Download WordSmith and install the program. 2. As part of the installation, you will need the username and license key, via the Corpora page. 3. Create your own small corpus -- maybe 2-3 General Conference talks, or a novel from Project Gutenberg, or one book in the scriptures, etc. 4. Run the WordList function of WordSmith to create a word list of your small corpus. (Steps: File / New, then Choose Texts Now, find texts, click on arrow to insert texts into list, then green checkbox, then Make a Wordlist Now). 5. Either do #4 again for a comparison corpus that you've created, or just download one of the WordSmith wordlists that I've created (via Corpora page, then Wordlists). Important: after you download the file, rename the file, replacing the .txt extension with .lst 6. In WordSmith, go to Settings / Adjust Settings / Keywords, and select the box by "Minimal Processing". Also, might set the "maximum p value" to .0001 or so. 7. From the Keywords tab of WordSmith, compare the word list from your corpus (step 4) to the word list for the reference corpus (Step 5). 8. What are some keywords that a) are trivial b) can be explained easily, or c) really are kind of problematic? 1.5 - 2.0 pages should do it. Make sure that there is some useful narrative, in addition to the lists of words. |
