GRAMMAR STUDY

Note: the following project deals with English.  If you'd like to do something similar for another language, please let me know.


Steps for this project:

1. Find one of the charts/topics from those in Biber et al's Student Grammar of English

2. Briefly summarize what Biber has to say about the data / topic (1 paragraph).

3. Check the BYU Corpus of American English to compare that data to the Longman corpus data that Biber presents.  Carefully re-create the queries you did to obtain the data.

4. Provide a nice summary of the American Corpus data -- including charts, figures, and actual occurrences from the corpus, if these help.

5. Does the data confirm or contrast with that in Biber?  If it contrasts, do you have some possible explanations for this?
