Born 1772 in (Tolland, Tolland County) Connecticut. One of the very early settlers in Mantua, Portage, OH; there by 1798. Built the first mill in town, as well as the first covered bridge coming into town, and the first brick house in town. Involved in many trades, such as carpentry work, cooperage, and blacksmithing. Married at age 31 in 1803. Was a member of Sidney Rigdon's congregation before he joined the Church. Rufus probably joined the Church between 1833 and about 1836. Gathered with the Saints to Missouri, and then probably to Nauvoo. Died in 1845 at age 73 in Henry County, IL, northeast of Nauvoo, IL.
