Born in 1902 in Wadsworth, Medina, OH. Lived on the same farm until he moved 47 years later, in 1949. As a boy, helped with milking etc. on the dairy farm and raised chickens so he could buy his own clothes. Went to school through the 8th grade; enjoyed hand-on farming more than book learning, but was always very good with numbers. Didn't date as a teenager, but did enjoy going to see Westerns at the theater. Even as a young man and more so as an adult, very good at fixing things around the house.. Mother's death in 1926 was very hard on him. To California with friends in 1930 (with plans to go on to Hawaii). Worked on construction of the LA Coliseum for a short time, then in a tire plant (as we had during the winter in Ohio). Met and married Ila Cowling in June, and then baptized in August, one day before coming back to the farm, after father's stroke. Decided to stay and run the farm after father's death. Was a solid member of the Akron Branch (and elsewhere), although he always found it hard to speak in front of others in Church. Paid off the farm early, in 1949, and moved to Southern California, mainly so that his daughters would be near more LDS young men. Spent one year in Idaho (1950-51) where he could again have a large garden and raise animals. In Souther California and in Turlock, CA (1954-1960) and elsewhere, always tried to find odd-jobs that dealt with farm work, such as working in orange-packing plants, caring for the city park, working at a dairy, and raising turkeys. In Turlock, dedicated more time to construction of new chapel than anyone else. To Utah in 1960; enjoyed the mountains, and fishing, gardening, bowling, and rock collecting and polishing. Very active in Temple and Welfare projects in the Church, and very often helped members with projects around their house. One of the founding members of the Springville Senior Citizens; helped refurbish the building. Died in 1967, after falling off of a hay truck while helping on a Welfare project. Known as being unassuming, quiet, humble, kind, gentle, very thrifty, with a very real life-long love of farm life.
