Born 1804 in Maryland. Married at age 24 in 1828 in Coshocton County, OH. His father Joshua was of Irish descent; died in Coshocton County in 1829. Joseph was left with small children after his first wife died from childbirth in 1836, remarried in 1839. Apparently never very wealthy or prominent, shown by his income reported in censuses 1850-1870, and because when he died in 1878 at age 73 at Perry, Coshocton, OH (a town he had lived in for over sixty years), there is no mention of his death in any civil record or in the newspaper.
