Born 1828 at Elizabeth Township, Leeds, Ontario, Canada. Probably baptized in Canada about 1838, along with parents and other members of her family. Her parents did not come to Nauvoo. Married at age 18 in 1846 in Nauvoo. Mother of nine children (four boys and four girls and one unidentified), born between 1847 and 1864, at least one of whom died as a child. First child Jane born premature in January 1847 at Winter Quarters; she was so small she had a shoebox as a crib. At Winter Quarters 1846-1852 with three small children and an (often) sick husband; took in extra work such as weaving and sewing to help. In Sanpete County, UT she was a midwife and was a "practical nurse" for the poor. Also ran a "big loom", making wool rugs, carpets, and horse blankets. Survived her husband by 24 years. Died in 1891 at age 63 in Sterling, UT.
