Born 1816 at Clelon (Cleton/Clayland), Lanarkshire, Scotland. Emigrated to America with grandparents and settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Married at age 15 (?) in 1832. Mother of thirteen children (eight boys and five girls) born between 1833 and 1863, four who died as children and one who died at age 11. Baptized 1842 in PA. In California, helped wash gold out of streams. Saved $500 of gold for family farm. Endowed 1851. Blind for a number of years before death. Died in 1896 at age 79 in Lewiston, UT. Buried in Farmington, UT.
