Born 1810 in Ashover, Derbyshire, England. Baptized 1848. President of the Chesterfield Branch for several years. To US after birth of last child in 1854. In Nebraska or Dry Hill, Missouri until 1859, when he crossed the plains to Utah. Moved to Cache Valley in 1860. Ordained a Seventy in 1860. Endowed in 1862. Moved with son-in-law Thomas Davies to the east ridge of Portage Valley in 1867. Ordained a High Priest in 1874, and served in the Bishopric. One of three white families in area. Known for raising horses. Survived his wife by 16 years. Died in 1891 at age 80 in Portage, UT.
