Born about 1837 at Tong, York, England. Baptized at age 12 in 1852, along with other members of his family, some off whom were later cut off from the LDS Church in England. According to family tradition, had a disfigured face from a mining accident in England as a young man, which he covered with a beard. Came to the US in 1863 at age 26. Apparently not active in the Church in Utah. Ran a supply store downtown, selling coal, lime, wood, etc. Lived about 6th East, north of North Temple in Salt Lake, until death in 1908 at age 68.
