Born 1845 in Alsace-Lorraine, between Germany and France. To US in 1848. Unknown father for her first child (Ella Etta), born Dec 31, 1866, the day before a law went into effect mandating birth records listing both parents. No husband in 1870 census. In late 1872 John Reep, a recent immigrant from Germany, came to live with Mary's father and family. Mary and John married in April 1873 and she had her second child five months later. Once John had become a naturalized citizen in the late 1870s, with the help of Mary's father, he deserted Mary and her child. She died in 1909 at age 64 at Plain, Wayne, OH.
