Born 1845 in Bristol, England. When he was seven years old, the family came to Utah. Married Jane Edwards in 1864 at about age 19; sealed to her in 1868. Lived in Ephraim from about 1864 to about 1876, when they moved to Mayfield. Was a freighter by trade, and often ran routes between Utah and Nevada. Helped three companies cross the plains; had many encounters with the Indians. Once shot by Indians near his home; the bullet split his scalp, and he spent more than six weeks unconscious. After Jane's death in 1909, married again (for time only). Survived his wife by ten years, he remarried in 1911. Died in 1919 at age 73 in Mayfield, Sanpete, UT. Known for having a jolly disposition; loved to play with the grandchildren on his lap, and always had candy in his pockets for them.
