Born 1844 in Southeaston, Northampton, PA. At age 2, went with parents on sailboat "Brooklyn" to California. Joseph was a small boy, but he remembered much of the journey around the Horn. Father was important in the building of San Francisco and discovery of gold. To Utah in 1849. Small boy when father served mission to Scotland. Father returned with grandmother, who Joseph saw for the first time. Married and sealed at age 23 in 1867 in the Endowment House. Successful farmer. Lived in many different early settlements: Farmington, Clarkston, Lewiston (Utah); Ashton and Marysville (Idaho). Joseph was a pioneer farmer in each of these places. He was an active church man, assisting much in the growth and progress of branches, ward, and stakes. Died in 1918 at age 73 in Marysville, ID.
