Born 1867 in Lake Fork, Ashland, OH. Married in 1887 at age 19. Moved to Medina County a few years after his marriage. Worked as a dairy farmer and was on the school board. Died in 1930 at age 63 in Wadsworth, Medina, OH. Known as being a very quiet and private man. While he was not a large man, he was a hard worker and was thus able to buy a car and other items for his family when they were still not common in rural Ohio. When he died, the obituary stated that he "had lived on his present farm for 26 years, and has been a member of the Reformed Church practically all his life. He was also a member of the Wadsworth Chapter of Maccabees. Simple in his manner of life, he was a sincere Christian, an exemplary father, a good citizen, a hard worker, and a loyal friend and neighbor."
